OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE ALICE SPRINGS CHICKEN

I cooked Alice Springs Chicken for dinner tonight and my family LOVED it!!!! You will love it too, if you like Outback Steakhouse's Alice Springs Chicken.

Recipe:
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 1/2 inch thickness

Lowry's Seasoning Salt

6 bacon slices
1/4 cup regular mustard
1/3 cup honey
2 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dried onion flakes
1 cup sliced fresh mushroom (I omitted because my family does not like mushrooms)

2 cup shredded Colby/Jack cheese
First, Sprinkle and rub the chicken breasts with seasoning salt.  Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

While the chicken is in the refrigerator, cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp.  Remove bacon and set aside.  ***Do not discard grease.***
Saute chicken in the bacon grease for 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until browned.  Place chicken in a 9" × 13" casserole dish or pan.
To make the Honey Mustard:  In a small bowl, mix the mustard, honey, mayonnaise and dried onion flakes.
Spread some of the Honey Mustard over each piece of chicken, then layer with mushrooms, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheese.
Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and chicken is done.
Serve with the left over Honey Mustard Sauce that you made.

    2. I just made this for our supper tonight and my husband and son loved it, and my husband doesn't really like chicken because he says it doesn't have any flavor, but he said this was loaded with flavor. It is also very easy to make!#

  4. I made this for dinner tonight. My family loved it! I used turkey bacon, as that was what I had on hand. I didn't use mushrooms. I added muenster cheese. Yummy!

  6. I worked at outback for a long time and the honey mustard for this is:
    mayonnaise
Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon is what they use)
    Honey
that's all that is in it.

the ratio's I don't know, I make it at home all the time and it's mostly mayo, then add the honey til it's sort of opaque then add the Dijon to taste, til it tastes right.

    thought this might help :)

    3. Helmans... Miracle whip is not really mayonase. It's its own thing (jar says salad spread).

  8. This used to be my husband's favorite at Outback but no longer orders it since I've been making it for several years and he likes mine better. Only difference between your recipe and mine is the dressing. This is definitely a favorite around here.

  9. if you do like mushrooms...do you cook them first or do you add them uncooked to the chicken before you put it in the oven

  10. I made this for dinner tonight, I have never had it at outback before but it was delicious. I typically do not use very much salt when I'm cooking and have never used seasoning salt before, I think I used a little too much. Next time I make it I will use a lot less. I substitutes dijon mustard for regular mustard and used a applewood smoked bacon from Fresh Market and it tasted great. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  11. MUSHROOMS...you put the chicken in a 9" x 13" baking dish and Apply the honey mustard to each breast, then layer with MUSHROOMS, bacon, and shredded cheese.

  13. Made this for dinner and, given that there are only two of us, there were a lot of leftovers! Tomorrow I'm going to put in the toaster oven with tortillas with a little sour cream on the side for lunch. (Like Outbacks Appetizer).

  14. This chicken dish was wonderful. The wemoon in my circle all took a copy of it. No mushrooms on 1/2 of them for my blessed family. Thank you for posting.

  19. Made this today and the whole family LOVED it! Just as good as Outbacks! I waited until about 10 minutes left of baking time before adding the cheese though. Next time I think I'll get the seasoning salt a little better because I slightly over-did it. Still a great dish! Thanks so much for sharing! You are on my Pinterest "YUM" board!

  20. I made this for dinner tonight and it was really, really good! Next time I'll cut back on the mustard because my husband isn't a big fan of mustard...I may cut back by 1/3 or so and make up the volume with mayo. I also waited until the last 10 minutes or so of baking to add the cheese. This recipe is definitely a keeper!

  21. Are you suppose to cover this while baking?

  22. I made this for dinner tonight and it was a hit with my husband. I served it with In the pod edemame and shoestring fries. Very yummy. Now I need dessert...

    Next time I will,
    - use less mustard (I only made two pieces of chicken but same amount of honey mustard)
    - use mushrooms (I didn't have any on hand)
    - wait until 10 mins left to add cheese (my cheese was a little too crisp for my taste)

    ReplyDelete
  23. This was really good. I'm normally not a fan of honey mustard but I liked this one so much I kept sneaking a taste of it before we sat down to eat. I would suggest covering it with foil. It will keep the cheese from drying out and being crisp like April mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  24. OMG, this was wonderful!!! Even my husband, who hates chicken, LOVED it. He even had TWO pieces!!! The chicken was so moist and tender and the sauce was yummy!!! This will definitely be on my list of favorites!!! Thanks for sharing...

  25. Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it tonight and my family loved it. I used 2 skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut them in half lengthwise and made 4 breasts that were a little less than 1/2 inch each. When I put them in the oven, I put the rack on the middle shelf, so not to burn the cheese or cook it too fast. It was perfectly cooked in 25 min. Delish!! BTW...do you have a PRINT button?

    ReplyDelete
  26. This was wonderful. I cooked the mushrooms with a diced shallot in the bacon grease while the chicken was resting. It gave the dish more flavor that way.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm making this for the second time. So delicious. I use tenders so I don't need to pound them out at all. I use microwave bacon. I use an actual onion. Sautee it in a little butter then brown the chicken in that pan. Then the onions go in baking dish first followed by the rest, instead of in the honey mustard. So tasty!

  28. This looks absolutely delicious! I actually have never had this @ Outback before..I usually get a steak ;)
I will definitely try this and let you know! New follower for sure.

  33. Hi Debra, I appreciated your recipe. I did however feel that it was quite heavy on the bacon and on the cheese, so I made a leaner version of this dish, and it was just fantastic. Thanks for the great idea!

  34. Hi Debra,
I appreciate your recipe, but I found it a bit heavy on the bacon and cheese. I lightened it up a bit, and found that it was really quite good! Thanks for sharing!

  39. Oh my gosh, mine turned out SO salty! I don't use much salt at all, my mom had high blood pressure all her life, so she never cooked with it, I never developed a taste for it. On a scale of 0-10 I'm a 1, I put it in my pasta water, and once in a while on steamed vegetables. BUT my fiance salts EVERYTHING (trying to break him of the habit) and he said it was way too salty too.

For full disclosure I did alter it a little. I used 2 chicken breasts, but they were huge. I didn't do the bacon thing (imagine if I had!) but I added real bacon bits. Oh, and no mushrooms.

I will probably try this again, but I won't use the Lawry's at all.

  42. I inadvertantly used dijon mustard and the honey mustard was spot on! My daughter said it was the perfect honey mustard, I just "eyed" the measurements. The only suggestion I have is to wait until the end to add the cheese.

  46. Made it tonight and will make it again but with less salt. May try adding cheese last 10 minutes like others suggested.

  47. When I get this at Outback I have them leave off the bacon because I eat no pork -- but now I wonder if they are still cooking my chicken in the bacon fat??

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok I devised a similar recipe for the Alice Springs chicken, but I never used Mayo.. I think I'm gonna try it with your recipe and see how it comes out!! Oh and if you bypass mixing your own honey mustard and use Ingelhoffers it taste the same and has a lil bite to the honey mustard. Its very good!!

  55. For those of you having a problem with too much salt i would suggest you look at Penzey's Spices. They have a great salt free version of season salt called Forward which adds the great flavor without all the extra sodium. They have other salt free seasonings too. You can also order out of their catalog if you dont have a store nearby.

  58. I made this and then told everyone at work about it. IT WAS A HUGE HIT. Thanks from my family and the staff at our local Emergency Room (which is where I work, not where anyone ended up lol)!!

  59. Loved it! Actually had to come on here and say it and a recipe has never made me do that before! I used dijon mustard as well and it still came out SO GOOD! I also used maple bacon. Will definitely make again! Husband loved it and he usually has to add hot sauce or soy sauce to chicken and this time he didn't!

  60. Ok so I never comment or review anything but I just had to about this one! My family absolutely loved this! The flavor was amazing! I used grey poupon instead of regular mustard & maybe a little bit more mayo, served with baked potatoes & it was fabulous! Will be making this again for sure! Thanks for sharring!

  61. Okay delicious can't even come close to how good this was. I made it for my peeps and they cleaned their plates, used up all the extra honey mustard sauce too. Even the picky 9 yr old ate it. so a must do over again and again. I did leave the bacon off mine but it was still awesome. thank you for sharing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. When my family makes this dish we skip the oven and just do everything in the skillet, cook the chicken, then cover with honey mustard and pile the bacon, mushrooms, and cheese on top. This way everyone has a more personalized piece of chicken on their plate. :) absolutely delicious and even the ones who can't cook make this dish with no problems!

  79. I made this tonight and fam loved it, thx for the recipe. Btw, I ran out of yellow mustard so had a mixture of both yellow/ Dijon and the taste was great. I keep a ill container of bacon grease in fridge so I used that to fry chicken in, I used a couple of handfuls of bacon bits bought at Costco. Great shortcut and easy recipe!

  82. I made this for my husband and myself tonight. It was a great dish, but I thought the chicken, without the cheese or bacon on it, when cooked tasted a bit plain. Next time I might add more seasoning, but other than that it was an amazing dish. Definitely something to make when guests are coming over!

  93. This was very good. I only used about half of the sauce, but not because it wasn't good, just because it was enough, had I used all of the sauce it would have been much too sweet for me. I used cheddar cheese, we love mushrooms so I used them, I skipped the seasoned salt all together, just used salt and pepper to season the chicken. My husband really liked it and I imagine that we will be adding it into the regular rotation.

  107. I made this tonight and it turned out really good. I used hardwood apple bacon and I sauted the mushrooms in the bacon grease after I sauted the chicken. I think next time I will add the cheese about half way through as it seemed to be a bit "dry" instead of melty and bubbly.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This is the 3rd time I've made this delicious recipe thanks to you sharing it with us. My family enjoys it as do I! I sauté the fresh mushrooms some before I place them on the chicken. I follow your directions except I do cover the baking dish with foil for the first 15 minutes and remove for the last 10 minutes of cooking. I find this keeps the cheese from drying out, and it melts to a nice bubbly delicacy! I don't like to overcook chicken because it becomes dry. I find that after browning for 3-5 minutes on each side that the dish only needs baking 25 minutes to suit our tastes! Definitely in my keeper recipe file. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  138. Haven't tried this yet but sounds delicious! For those of us on low carb, any suggestions for replacing the honey? How do you think it would come out just using the mayo and mustard?
