I cooked Alice Springs Chicken for dinner tonight and my family LOVED it!!!! You will love it too, if you like Outback Steakhouse's Alice Springs Chicken.
Recipe:
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, pounded to 1/2 inch thickness
Lowry's Seasoning Salt
6 bacon slices
1/4 cup regular mustard
1/3 cup honey
2 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dried onion flakes
1 cup sliced fresh mushroom (I omitted because my family does not like mushrooms)
2 cup shredded Colby/Jack cheese
First, Sprinkle and rub the chicken breasts with seasoning salt. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
While the chicken is in the refrigerator, cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside. ***Do not discard grease.***
Saute chicken in the bacon grease for 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until browned. Place chicken in a 9" × 13" casserole dish or pan.
To make the Honey Mustard: In a small bowl, mix the mustard, honey, mayonnaise and dried onion flakes.
Spread some of the Honey Mustard over each piece of chicken, then layer with mushrooms, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheese.
Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and chicken is done.
Serve with the left over Honey Mustard Sauce that you made.

yum, very good. A family favorite for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like pure heaven! I'm saving this to my favorites now!
ReplyDeleteHad this for supper and it is amazing!!! My husband even loved it!! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteMade this last month and three family Loved it, visiting family overseas now and am going to make it for them :)
DeleteI just made this for our supper tonight and my husband and son loved it, and my husband doesn't really like chicken because he says it doesn't have any flavor, but he said this was loaded with flavor. It is also very easy to make!#
DeleteI made this for dinner tonight. My family loved it! I used turkey bacon, as that was what I had on hand. I didn't use mushrooms. I added muenster cheese. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying this tonight!!! Sounds great!!!
ReplyDeleteI worked at outback for a long time and the honey mustard for this is:
ReplyDeletemayonnaise
Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon is what they use)
Honey
that's all that is in it.
the ratio's I don't know, I make it at home all the time and it's mostly mayo, then add the honey til it's sort of opaque then add the Dijon to taste, til it tastes right.
thought this might help :)
is it helmans or mirical whip
Deleteis it helmans or mirical whip
DeleteHelmans... Miracle whip is not really mayonase. It's its own thing (jar says salad spread).
DeleteJimmi, I have the recipe for the Honey Mustard Sauce posted. It is soooo yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteThis used to be my husband's favorite at Outback but no longer orders it since I've been making it for several years and he likes mine better. Only difference between your recipe and mine is the dressing. This is definitely a favorite around here.
ReplyDeleteif you do like mushrooms...do you cook them first or do you add them uncooked to the chicken before you put it in the oven
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight, I have never had it at outback before but it was delicious. I typically do not use very much salt when I'm cooking and have never used seasoning salt before, I think I used a little too much. Next time I make it I will use a lot less. I substitutes dijon mustard for regular mustard and used a applewood smoked bacon from Fresh Market and it tasted great. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeleteMUSHROOMS...you put the chicken in a 9" x 13" baking dish and Apply the honey mustard to each breast, then layer with MUSHROOMS, bacon, and shredded cheese.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very very yummy
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner and, given that there are only two of us, there were a lot of leftovers! Tomorrow I'm going to put in the toaster oven with tortillas with a little sour cream on the side for lunch. (Like Outbacks Appetizer).
ReplyDeleteThis chicken dish was wonderful. The wemoon in my circle all took a copy of it. No mushrooms on 1/2 of them for my blessed family. Thank you for posting.
ReplyDeleteII made this tonight and it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it was awesome! A definite keeper!
ReplyDeleteGreat dish!! My kids said I HAVE to make this again.
ReplyDeleteThis was great. I used dijon mustard and it turned out delicious.
ReplyDeleteMade this today and the whole family LOVED it! Just as good as Outbacks! I waited until about 10 minutes left of baking time before adding the cheese though. Next time I think I'll get the seasoning salt a little better because I slightly over-did it. Still a great dish! Thanks so much for sharing! You are on my Pinterest "YUM" board!
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight and it was really, really good! Next time I'll cut back on the mustard because my husband isn't a big fan of mustard...I may cut back by 1/3 or so and make up the volume with mayo. I also waited until the last 10 minutes or so of baking to add the cheese. This recipe is definitely a keeper!
ReplyDeleteAre you suppose to cover this while baking?
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight and it was a hit with my husband. I served it with In the pod edemame and shoestring fries. Very yummy. Now I need dessert...
ReplyDeleteNext time I will,
- use less mustard (I only made two pieces of chicken but same amount of honey mustard)
- use mushrooms (I didn't have any on hand)
- wait until 10 mins left to add cheese (my cheese was a little too crisp for my taste)
This was really good. I'm normally not a fan of honey mustard but I liked this one so much I kept sneaking a taste of it before we sat down to eat. I would suggest covering it with foil. It will keep the cheese from drying out and being crisp like April mentioned.
ReplyDeleteOMG, this was wonderful!!! Even my husband, who hates chicken, LOVED it. He even had TWO pieces!!! The chicken was so moist and tender and the sauce was yummy!!! This will definitely be on my list of favorites!!! Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this recipe. I made it tonight and my family loved it. I used 2 skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut them in half lengthwise and made 4 breasts that were a little less than 1/2 inch each. When I put them in the oven, I put the rack on the middle shelf, so not to burn the cheese or cook it too fast. It was perfectly cooked in 25 min. Delish!! BTW...do you have a PRINT button?
ReplyDeleteThis was wonderful. I cooked the mushrooms with a diced shallot in the bacon grease while the chicken was resting. It gave the dish more flavor that way.
ReplyDeleteI'm making this for the second time. So delicious. I use tenders so I don't need to pound them out at all. I use microwave bacon. I use an actual onion. Sautee it in a little butter then brown the chicken in that pan. Then the onions go in baking dish first followed by the rest, instead of in the honey mustard. So tasty!
ReplyDeleteThis looks absolutely delicious! I actually have never had this @ Outback before..I usually get a steak ;)
ReplyDeleteI will definitely try this and let you know! New follower for sure.
Blesings,
Sarah
This was good. Not an over abundance of any of the flavors but they were all balanced really well. Will def make this again!!
ReplyDeleteJust made this tonight! We loved it! This is definitely a keeper!
ReplyDeleteJust had this for dinner. It was delish! We loved it. This is going into our rotation :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJust made this tonight! We loved it! This is definitely a keeper!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra, I appreciated your recipe. I did however feel that it was quite heavy on the bacon and on the cheese, so I made a leaner version of this dish, and it was just fantastic. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your recipe, but I found it a bit heavy on the bacon and cheese. I lightened it up a bit, and found that it was really quite good! Thanks for sharing!
I made this last night. I used Tastefully Simple Season Salt cause I had it already. We loved it. Served it with baked potato and caesar salad. Def a keeper.
ReplyDeleteMy family loved it! I served it for my daughter's birthday, and it was a hit.
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner tonight and it was really good, my 7year old daughter loved it...
ReplyDeleteI made this for a special date night at home for my husband and I. It was so good. I will definitely be making it again.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, mine turned out SO salty! I don't use much salt at all, my mom had high blood pressure all her life, so she never cooked with it, I never developed a taste for it. On a scale of 0-10 I'm a 1, I put it in my pasta water, and once in a while on steamed vegetables. BUT my fiance salts EVERYTHING (trying to break him of the habit) and he said it was way too salty too.
ReplyDeleteFor full disclosure I did alter it a little. I used 2 chicken breasts, but they were huge. I didn't do the bacon thing (imagine if I had!) but I added real bacon bits. Oh, and no mushrooms.
I will probably try this again, but I won't use the Lawry's at all.
Tonight will be the 2nd night in the last 2 weeks that I will be making this dish! I couldnt believe how good it tasted. I think even better than the real thing at Outback!!!
ReplyDeleteTonight will be the 2nd night in the last two weeks that I will have made this dish!! I couldn't believe how good it turned out. I think even better than the real thing at Outback!
ReplyDeleteI inadvertantly used dijon mustard and the honey mustard was spot on! My daughter said it was the perfect honey mustard, I just "eyed" the measurements. The only suggestion I have is to wait until the end to add the cheese.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great recipe. I inadvertantly used dijon mustard since that was all I had, and "eyed" the ingredients, but my daughter said it was perfect honey mustard! The only suggestion I would make is to wait until the end to add the cheese, otherwise, this is a make again...and again!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight for dinner and my husband loved it! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMade for dinner tonight & it was great! To shorten time,I used store bought honey mustard & real bacon pieces in bag. Skipped mushrooms, & used shredded cheddar cheese. Yum! New favorite!
ReplyDeleteMade it tonight and will make it again but with less salt. May try adding cheese last 10 minutes like others suggested.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get this at Outback I have them leave off the bacon because I eat no pork -- but now I wonder if they are still cooking my chicken in the bacon fat??
ReplyDeleteOk I devised a similar recipe for the Alice Springs chicken, but I never used Mayo.. I think I'm gonna try it with your recipe and see how it comes out!! Oh and if you bypass mixing your own honey mustard and use Ingelhoffers it taste the same and has a lil bite to the honey mustard. Its very good!!
ReplyDeleteThis really sound and looks delicious! I have been looking for something a little different to do with chicken, this may be it! Definitely a must try! :)

ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight. Everyone loved it. The honey mustard sauce was yummy. This will be a family favorite recipe.

ReplyDeleteHi Debra! I just wanted you to know that I cooked this tonight and it was not only easy but really delicious! Maybe we can follow each other...and link to some of each others blogs. www.aroundtheworldwithrecipes.sgbrown.blogspot.com. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat did you serve as sides? Thanks
ReplyDeleteFor those of you having a problem with too much salt i would suggest you look at Penzey's Spices. They have a great salt free version of season salt called Forward which adds the great flavor without all the extra sodium. They have other salt free seasonings too. You can also order out of their catalog if you dont have a store nearby.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who have a problem with to much salt, may i suggest you try Penzey's Spices. I have had great luck with their Forward seasoning which is a salt free version season salt. They have other salt free herb and season blends which are great for those if us who need to watch the sodium!
ReplyDeleteI made your Outback chicken tonight and it was outstanding! I followed your recipe using Dijon mustard. It was a huge hit. Thinking of using the sauce over smaller pieces of chicken and serving as appetizers. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
ReplyDeleteI made this and then told everyone at work about it. IT WAS A HUGE HIT. Thanks from my family and the staff at our local Emergency Room (which is where I work, not where anyone ended up lol)!!
ReplyDeleteLoved it! Actually had to come on here and say it and a recipe has never made me do that before! I used dijon mustard as well and it still came out SO GOOD! I also used maple bacon. Will definitely make again! Husband loved it and he usually has to add hot sauce or soy sauce to chicken and this time he didn't!
ReplyDeleteOk so I never comment or review anything but I just had to about this one! My family absolutely loved this! The flavor was amazing! I used grey poupon instead of regular mustard & maybe a little bit more mayo, served with baked potatoes & it was fabulous! Will be making this again for sure! Thanks for sharring!
ReplyDeleteOkay delicious can't even come close to how good this was. I made it for my peeps and they cleaned their plates, used up all the extra honey mustard sauce too. Even the picky 9 yr old ate it. so a must do over again and again. I did leave the bacon off mine but it was still awesome. thank you for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen my family makes this dish we skip the oven and just do everything in the skillet, cook the chicken, then cover with honey mustard and pile the bacon, mushrooms, and cheese on top. This way everyone has a more personalized piece of chicken on their plate. :) absolutely delicious and even the ones who can't cook make this dish with no problems!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight exactly as posted - it is the second time in 2 weeks and it is deeelish! Thank you for the post. :)
ReplyDeleteMade this exactly as posted - second time in 2 weeks and it is deeelish! Thank you for posting this. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a keeper! For years, I've been mixing honey & dijon mustard and topping it on chicken breast, but adding cheese & bacon...what a bonus of flavor!(I didn't have mushrooms, but it was still wonderful)-Thank you for this recipe!
ReplyDeleteWanted to let you know this was a HUGE hit! Made it for the first time on Tuesday and my husband liked it so much he had me make it for his parents tonight. Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteMade this for the first time Tuesday and my husband loved it. In fact he liked it so much he hade me make it for his parents tonight. This will be a family favorite for sure. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWe made this tonight and added in the mushrooms it was AMAZING. We also topped ours with dried onions it was to die for.
ReplyDeleteMy husband asked for this a second time this week! I use dijon mustard. My family likes it with mashed potatoes. This is delicious. I found the recipe on Pinterest.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best! I'm making it today instead of my normal Valentine's day dinner which is beef Wellington. This whole family loves this :)
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight for the hubby and I, and it was a hit! This will definitely we working its way into rotation here, the honey mustard is divine, I used brown deli mustard instead, BOMB, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis was so good! Thank you! I don't even have to go to Outback anymore!

The flavor is very good! However, I didn't pound the chicken breasts and they took longer to cook...and probably weren't as tender. So, next time I make it I'll definitely do that. :-) Thanks!!

ReplyDeleteThis recipe is awesome. My husband and son thought it was better than Outback and the sauce was exactly like the sauce they serve. Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone.
ReplyDeleteI'm making this tonight for the hubby and myself. Super excited as it is one of my favorites. I did end up using Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Mustard dipping sauce b/c ran out of honey. Thanks in advance and I'll let you know!
ReplyDeleteCame back to let you know that I made this for supper last week and OMG! It was delish! DH loved it as well. How can you go wrong with TY!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and fam loved it, thx for the recipe. Btw, I ran out of yellow mustard so had a mixture of both yellow/ Dijon and the taste was great. I keep a ill container of bacon grease in fridge so I used that to fry chicken in, I used a couple of handfuls of bacon bits bought at Costco. Great shortcut and easy recipe!
ReplyDeleteThe chicken was great. Thank you for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteMade the "Alice Springs Chicken".. AMAZING!! Excellent rip! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI made this for my husband and myself tonight. It was a great dish, but I thought the chicken, without the cheese or bacon on it, when cooked tasted a bit plain. Next time I might add more seasoning, but other than that it was an amazing dish. Definitely something to make when guests are coming over!
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to try this-looks great! Are you on Pinterest? I've found thats such a great way to keep all my recipes and ideas-all in one place-that would be so convenient for all your recipes.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your blog. ☺
This is my new favorite chicken dish!
ReplyDeleteABSOLUTELY loved this recipe! My husband is a huge fan of Alice Springs Chicken and felt that this recipe was as close as you could get without physically going to Outback Steakhouse (not to mention, waaay cheaper)! Thank you :))
ReplyDeleteMade this for my picky family. I can usually make one or 2 happy but this was a clean sweep.
ReplyDeleteChuck
Have made this several times, I do not like honey or mustard and it's delicious. I did use Dijon mustard as well. Has anyone tried this in the crockpot?
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight yummmmm I used maple bacon, and instead of onion flakes I saute fresh onions. I also used honey mustard. served with
ReplyDeleteRice and Broccoli slaw
Am about to make this today , I'll get back with my reslut
ReplyDeleteI made the chicken tonight for dinner without the mushrooms. It was very good but next time I will definitely will make it with mushrooms. I made it with home made red lobster biscuits.

ReplyDeleteI wrote a blog about your recipe..we loved it! Thank you for sharing!
This was very good. I only used about half of the sauce, but not because it wasn't good, just because it was enough, had I used all of the sauce it would have been much too sweet for me. I used cheddar cheese, we love mushrooms so I used them, I skipped the seasoned salt all together, just used salt and pepper to season the chicken. My husband really liked it and I imagine that we will be adding it into the regular rotation.
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner yesterday. It was definitely a hit and I will make it again.

ReplyDeleteMaking this tonight for the 3rd time!!! Thanks for the recipe (better than Outback :)
ReplyDeleteMaking this tonight for the 3rd time!!! Thanks for the recipe (better than Outback :)
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it turned out really good. I used hardwood apple bacon and I sauted the mushrooms in the bacon grease after I sauted the chicken. I think next time I will add the cheese about half way through as it seemed to be a bit "dry" instead of melty and bubbly.
ReplyDeleteThis is the 3rd time I've made this delicious recipe thanks to you sharing it with us. My family enjoys it as do I! I sauté the fresh mushrooms some before I place them on the chicken. I follow your directions except I do cover the baking dish with foil for the first 15 minutes and remove for the last 10 minutes of cooking. I find this keeps the cheese from drying out, and it melts to a nice bubbly delicacy! I don't like to overcook chicken because it becomes dry. I find that after browning for 3-5 minutes on each side that the dish only needs baking 25 minutes to suit our tastes! Definitely in my keeper recipe file. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

ReplyDeleteHey there! I am in a food group on facebook called GFACV and there is a person there who stole the image for this dish and is claiming it as her own. She is also using Nigela Lawson's picture as her own. Just thought I'd let you know.

Absolutely delicious! Huge hit in this household!
ReplyDeleteThis was stoopid good! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing! I made it two nights ago, and loved it! Everyone loved it!
ReplyDeleteI was a little skeptical, because I've never tried it and I don't like mustard, but this was amazing and so easy to make!
I also have some picky eaters who don't like mushrooms, so we did not try it with the mushrooms. :)
I have not had this at Outback, but this is delicious and super easy! I didn't change anything. I only wish that I had more chicken! Lol Thanks so much for Sharing!
ReplyDeleteI found this recipe on Pinterest, I have not had it at Outback, so I can't compare but this was delicious!!!! I followed the recipe to the letter and honestly wouldn't change a thing. Super easy. Also in love with the sauce. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner (never having the outback version) Family gives it thumbs up!!! My son doesn't like honey mustard I substituted BBQ on his.
ReplyDeleteThis was scrumptious! I didn't have regular mustard, so I substituted with Dijon. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and the family loved it!!
ReplyDeleteJust wondering how the sauce would change based on the amount of mayo added?
ReplyDeleteERMERGERD!! I have lost track of how many times I have made this recipe. Although I have never had it at Outback so I don't know if it is the same.
ReplyDeleteOther than a bit less mustard - and I use Dijon - I pretty much follow your method.
We made this for our family this past weekend. It was great, we will be making this again.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Troy

I made this for dinner last night and my family LOVED it! I brought leftovers for work to work today and everyone said it smelled deliscious! When I was making it, I really thought it wouldn't taste good but something magical happens while it bakes in the oven!!

ReplyDeleteHaven't tried this yet but sounds delicious! For those of us on low carb, any suggestions for replacing the honey? How do you think it would come out just using the mayo and mustard?
